	objection bears fruit - CESA is pleased to announce that after a 
	lengthy process involving extensive correspondence with National Treasury 
	and KZN Dept of Public Works Department (KZN DPW), members are reporting 
	that KZN DPW have stopped misinterpreting the provisions of the revised 
	PPPFA regulations (2017) whereby they mistakenly applied the 
	Pre-Qualification requirements for sub consultants (only), Clause 4.1(c), to 
	the main consultants instead of using the prescribed Construction Charter 
	ratings, Clause 4.1 (a). 
		Request to Members – CESA is proud whenever a member 
		firm is mentioned in the media for winning an award or completing a 
		prestigious project etc, however it is disappointing that they usually 
		fail to mention their membership of their Industry Body CESA. It is the 
		responsibility of members and ultimately to their advantage, to raise 
		awareness of CESA amongst clients and the industry.

	of CESA Practice Notes – CESA is about to embark on the updating of 
	our Practice Notes currently 91 in number. This is an extensive exercise 
	that would require a significant budget if use was made of a service 
	provider to complete the project.&nbsp; However, the task would be reduced 
	to “bite-size chunks” and easily accomplished, if volunteers from the CESA 
	membership each revised/updated one of the Practice Notes. Hence members are 
	earnestly requested to volunteer as outlined, viz (1) study list of Practice 
	Notes available at

	The updating will not be onerous, templates will be provided and reference 
	to useful websites etc., will be encouraged. 
	This is one of those rare opportunities to “give back to your profession” in 
	a meaningful and beneficial manner, which will be greatly appreciated.
		CESA Practice Note wrt ‘Guidelines for Resident Engineers / 
		Engineer's Representatives on Engineering Projects' – To raise 
		awareness among members of CESA’s over ninety excellent CESA Practice 
		Notes available to members only, we would like to draw your attention to

		COLTO Workshop – For the revision and rewrite of the 
		existing COLTO Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Works for 
		State Road Authorities (1998 edition), the COLTO Road Materials 
		Committee (RMC) will be hosting workshops to present Working Draft (WD) 
		Chapters that have been revised. Due to the size of the document, 
		individual workshops will be held for the different Chapters. Members 
		are invited to the upcoming workshop on 19 &amp; 20 September 2018 which 
		will be held at the SANRAL offices in Port Elizabeth.

		IPDM Training Seminars – The next planned Training 
		Seminar is taking place on 18 &amp; 19 September 2018 in Durban, at the CESA

	 Zitholele Consulting turns 15! Specialist Consulting 
		Engineering practice Zitholele Consulting, based in Midrand, turned 15 
		this year. Zitholele specialise in Water and Waste Water Treatment, 
		Waste Management, and Environmental Management. CESA’s current Deputy 
		President, Sugen Pillay is the Managing Director of Zitholele which 
		hosted a celebration at the Johannesburg Country Club to thank staff, 
		clients and partners for helping the practice to achieve this 
		significant milestone. 
		JG Afrika engineer is world first – Iris Wink, an 
		Associate heading up the JG Afrika’s Transport &amp; Traffic Engineering 
		Division in their Cape Town Office, is the first woman worldwide to 
		become a registered International Road Federation (IRF) Road Safety 
		Audit Team Leader, and only the second person in Africa to achieve this 
		accreditation.
		WSP article – Women in STEM – This article published 
		in Construction World looks at tackling some of the barriers to entry by 
		women in STEM, is based on interviews with four inspired women in WSP – 
		two engineers, an environmental scientist and a sustainability 
		consultant – on their career advice for the youth and budding

		JG Afrika in the news – Construction World published 
		a leading article on longstanding CESA member firm, JG Afrika, 
		describing how the firm had helped SANRAL drive another strategic road 
		upgrade. The company is overseeing the upgrade of a 48 km section of the 
		N2 highway between Caledon and Riviersonderend in the Western Cape. The 
		road serves as a vital link between the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal, 
		and about 3 500 motor vehicles and 500 trucks use this economic and 
		tourist route every day to travel between Cape Town and the many cities 
		along the south and eastern coastlines.
