		<h1>Highlights from the CEO</h1>

		Revised CESA Constitution &amp; By-laws - On 4 June 2019 a 
		Special General Meeting (SGM) was held to debate and consider the 
		proposed revisions to the CESA Constitution &amp; By-laws, which included 
		significant changes to the criteria for CESA membership in recognition 
		of the changing world of the business of consulting engineering. The 
		draft Constitution &amp; By-laws were unanimously approved and will be 
		available to members in early July 2019.
		CESA Strategic Planning Session - Much like any 
		other organisation we recognise the need for setting medium term 
		strategic goals for the organisation that assist in ensuring that we 
		remain the Apex organisation for consulting engineering. To this end the 
		Board and the Management Team held a session on 4 June 2019, after the 
		SGM, to establish these goals to guide the Management Team in its 
		activities over the next few years. One of the significant additions is 
		to ensure that we have an industry that is above corruption and not even 
		found to be complicit in corruption through sub-consulting to companies 
		who are appointed through questionable processes.
		African Construction &amp; Totally Concrete Expo - I had 
		occasion at this Expo to have a 'person to person' discussion with the 
		Executive Mayor of the City of Johannesburg, Herman Mashaba, to 
		strengthen the relationship between the City and CESA. I utilised this 
		valuable opportunity to strongly encourage the use of CESA members for 
		the delivery of infrastructure projects planned by the City.
		Inauguration of the State President - As CEO of CESA 
		I was invited by the Office of the President to attend this function on 
		8 June 2019 and used the opportunity to cement the relationship with the 
		SANRAL through direct interaction with the SANRAL CEO.
		SANRAL discussion - Myself and members of the CESA 
		Management Team met with Ismail Essa, SANRAL Transformation Manager on 
		the 12th June 2019, to discuss members procurement issues related to 
		SANRAL tenders as well the synergies that could be derived between the 
		CESA School of Consulting Engineering (SCE) and SANRAL's Centre of 
		Excellence.

	Affairs, Procurement &amp; Membership</h1>

	Declarations and subscriptions - CESA is currently contacting a 
	number of member firms who have not completed their Annual Declarations. 
	Without these latest staffing figures provided by the Annual Declarations 
	and in accordance with the Constitution, these firms will be invoiced using 
	the previous year's subscription figures plus a 20% penalty fee.&nbsp; 
	&nbsp; 
	New members - The names of seven firms applying for CESA 
	membership have been circulated among the CESA member firms without 
	objection and will therefore be admitted as members once they have paid 
	their subscriptions.

	New FIDIC documents - The following two new FIDIC releases 
	are available from CESA: 
	(1) ISO 9001:2015 Interpretation and Application Guide 1st Ed (2017) - A 
	guide to the interpretation and application of the ISO 9001:2015 Standard 
	for the consulting engineering industry (1st Edition, 2017),

	with ICE Publishing which since 1836 has offered the most comprehensive

	including geotechnical engineering, sustainability, procurement and law and 
	maritime engineering. The content is available both in print and online. For

		South African Forum for Engineering (SAFE) - The 
		meeting of this Forum on 19 June 2019, chaired by the CESA CEO, was well 
		attended and has great promise for becoming an important stakeholder in 
		the SA Built Environment. It has 19 signatory Voluntary Associations 
		including ECSA representation, and effectively replaces the ECSA 
		Presidents Forum.

		FIDIC CEO Update, Issue 3, June 2019 - Members are 
		invited to access the third edition of the 'FIDIC CEO Update', which is 
		their bi-monthly communication to keep FIDIC Member Associations and 
		stakeholders up to date on the latest work of FIDIC,

		CESA Practice Notes - CESA is pushing ahead with the 
		updating and re-organisation of these useful Practice Notes reflecting 
		'best practice' in the consulting engineering sector. It will take some 
		time as there are currently over 90 Practice Notes to be revised.

		reserved for their use only. They can be found on the Members Section of

	of Consulting Engineering</h1>

		your Company from the Inside-Out through Training - It has been 
		encouraging to see how many companies are interested in running SCE 
		in-house training courses. It appears as if the senior management of 
		these companies want to change their company from the inside-out. 
		Undeniably, it is more cost effective with limited time out of the 
		office, no travelling or accommodation costs etc. However, the greatest 
		advantage is that these courses are tailor-made to the company's and 
		employees' specific needs, the company's culture and strategic vision. 
		An even greater benefit is that a company's own internal policies, 
		procedures and financial information can be used to make the course/s 
		more practical and relevant.

		Komati River Bridge - Construction World, 13 June 
		2019, reports that member firm SMEC South Africa was appointed by Trans 
		African Concessions (TRAC) to undertake the detailed inspection, 
		rehabilitation design and construction supervision of the Komati River 
		Bridge refurbishment project. The bridge is situated on the N4 Toll 
		Route, Section 8 and is an important river crossing for freight 
		traveling between South Africa and Mozambique.
