	the course of the past month we have met with a number of important industry 
	organisations, including the Minister of Education, in our quest to promote 
	the interests of CESA member firms
	 Minister of Education - Meeting was with &nbsp;Minister 
	 Pandor, Department of Higher Education and Training to discuss the 
	 concerns we have from an industry perspective regarding the introduction 
	 of the &nbsp;new 3 year BEng (Tech) degree this year and the planned phasing 
	 out of the current National Diploma and BTech paths of study offered at 
	 Universities of Technology. 
	 National Treasury - An exploratory meeting was held to explore 
	 progress relating to the MOU as well as further collaboration around 
	 SIPDM. 
	 Road Federation and SABITA - In a meeting held with both 
	 organisations an agreement on collaboration was reached. 
	 COGTA - Further to our meeting we are in the process of 
	 preparing a Memorandum of Understanding. 
	 CBE - A successful meeting was held with the Council who 
	 were looking at further support in terms of Identification of Work. 
	 Contracts on Demand - We are in the process of 
	 discussions about collaborating for the production of webinars.

	 Combined '5th Africa Engineering Week and 3rd Africa 
	 Engineering Conference' - We have been requested by the 
	 Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK) to inform members of the 
	 conference IEK will be hosting in September 2018, which UNESCO has 
	 declared as the Engineering month. This conference will be held in 
	 collaboration with the Federation of African Engineering Organizations 
	 (FAEO), the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO) and 
	 UNESCO.&nbsp; 
	 All members of the World Federation of Engineering Organisations are 
	 expected to organise a week of celebrations during which Engineers carry 
	 out various activities directed towards the empowerment and mentoring of 
	 the youth in engineering matters.
	 The main theme of the conference is "Harnessing the Blue/Ocean Economy 
	 for Accelerated Economic Growth". The Conference will be a platform for 
	 engineers and participants to discuss the benefits and challenges relating 
	 to the Blue/Ocean Economy in order to generate effective and sustainable 
	 solutions and will be attended by senior Government Officials, leading 
	 engineers and technocrats in Africa and international delegates from all 
	 parts of the world. 
	 The Conference will be held from 17-21 September 2018 at the Pride Inn 
	 Paradise Beach Resort, Mombasa, Kenya.&nbsp;

	 CESA YPF 2018 Job Shadowing Initiative - Members are 
	 advised that the Annual 2018 Job Shadowing Initiative will once again 
	 take&nbsp;place over a period of three months - May, June and July this year.&nbsp; 
	 With the theme of 'A Day in the Life of a Consulting Engineer' member 
	 firms are encouraged to provide learners with an experience like no other.&nbsp; 
	 The goal of the CESA YPF Job Shadowing Initiative is to expose and entice 
	 school Learners to embrace the field of Engineering, but more so to 
	 pursuing a career in Consulting Engineering. By exposing these learners to 
	 the exciting field of engineering, they get a chance to imagine, live, 
	 work and play engineering - opening their minds to a world of 
	 possibilities and opportunities. Furthermore, this year participating 
	 firms may either submit a single entry - pre-entry form and poster - by 
	 firm or multiple entries by regional offices. We hope that this change to 
	 the entry criteria will encourage competition between regional offices of 
	 larger firms and encourage participation by smaller firms.

	support for its Standard for Infrastructure Procurement &amp; Delivery

	 Fraudulent Requests for Quotations (RFQs) - Members 
	 are reporting receiving an increased number of fraudulent RFQs from 
	 various entities. Ostensibly these are aimed at obtaining all member's 
	 company details. CESA would like to warn our members to be very careful 
	 when responding to such emails and make sure that they are legitimate 
	 requests.
