				I would like to take this opportunity to extend our warmest 
				Compliments of the New Year to all members. Welcome back to the 
				world of work and we wish you all the best for 2021!&nbsp; 
				We look forward to working together with our members and all our 
				stakeholders and contributing meaningfully towards 
				infrastructure development and economic growth, especially 
				during and despite the current climate. 
				 
				Construction Alliance South Africa (CASA) - 
				CESA is a signatory to CASA which was recently launched as an 
				industry wide alliance with the shared goal of rebuilding the 
				construction sector after the damage it suffered under the 
				Covid-19 Pandemic, and following the success of the

				Construction</a>&nbsp;Covid-19 Rapid Response Task Team, established 
				in April 2020,&nbsp; in which CESA was actively involved.

		SANRAL Procurement/tender Issues - Although we have 
		had certain undertakings from SANRAL to review our concerns reflected in 
		communications dated 13 March 2020 and 4 December 2020 and promises that 
		they will revert once they had consulted other stakeholder 
		organisations, we have not had a satisfactory response as yet. There 
		were a number of Consulting Engineering companies as well as at least 
		three other organisations present in a Workshop held with SANRAL in 
		early December 2020 to address these issues. We had shared with them at 
		that Workshop (hosted by Ismail and Inba) that we had at the date of 
		this Workshop not heard of any changes in their procurement approach and 
		had compiled a list of concerns from members which were to be considered 
		in addition to the ones they had not as yet addressed. Though we 
		received a response to our March letter in late December 2020 (from 
		Louw), most of the responses were non-committal and inconsistent with 
		discussions at the early December Workshop and we have since spoken to 
		them requesting that they review those responses in conjunction with 
		ones on the additional list as there appeared to be inconsistencies 
		within their own organisation which needed to be addressed to avoid 
		confusion in their response to the Industry. We hope to have more 
		feedback in due course or at least have our members experience some 
		positive changes in the coming month. Some issues are not going to be 
		easily resolved and may take a bit more time and we will provide 
		feedback as we receive it.. Unfortunately, January may be too soon for 
		them to have achieved some of their objectives, such as building more 
		capacity, getting uniformity in procurement processes and procedures 
		across regions and removing the erroneous qualification criteria around 
		the definition of a Consulting Engineer which contributed to member 
		companies who had been doing work for them being excluded from 
		qualifying for such work, to mention but a few.&nbsp;

		ECSA Guideline Fees - CESA has been informed that 
		the revised/updated ECSA Fee Guidelines were approved at the last 
		sitting of the ECSA Council in 2020 and that it is anticipated that the 
		Guidelines will be gazetted shortly.
		FIDIC Covid-19 Bulletin 1, January 2021, Workplace Challenges 
		and Best Practices - This bulletin provides useful insights 
		into the international experience of the consulting engineering industry 
		during the Covid-19 Pandemic and covers topics such as a focus on new 
		and evolved challenges faced by consulting engineering firms in their 
		internal environment with respect to staff and facilities and the 
		resulting best practice. The information presented was gathered from 
		senior industry leaders. For more detail,

		Annual Declarations - The first reminder to update 
		the 2021 Annual Declaration has been sent out. Kindly note that there 
		are additional Management System Declarations (MSDs) to be completed 
		relating to quality, sustainability, and integrity.&nbsp; These should 
		please be completed by the champion in the firm responsible for those 
		issues. Part 1 is due mid-Feb 2021, Parts 2 and 3 by end March 2021. In 
		addition, there will be some questions on the benefits of membership and 
		the turnover brackets have been expanded, as well as an opportunity for 
		members to specify their engineering sub-discipline/specialisation to 
		assist clients in sourcing appropriately skilled firms.
