Tackling industry concerns head on, our CEO Chris Campbell was featured in the recent Sunday Times Infrastructure feature with an article titled Consulting Engineers – Protecting Lives and Livelihoods. In the article, Campbell explains the critical role that consulting engineers play in the sustainability and safety of South Africa’s infrastructure. He also highlights that, while infrastructure development is certainly an avenue for job creation and is important in the short term, greater emphasis should be placed on the long-term economic growth and the sustainable jobs that would arise from the benefits of having functional infrastructure. Read the article

The Campaign Overview is as follows:
In view of the current depressed state of the South African economy and the impact that the development of value-for-money infrastructure can make on the upliftment of communities and improvement in service delivery, Consulting Engineers South Africa (CESA) through its over 580 member firms employing in excess of 21 000 people are well positioned to make a positive impact in underpinning economic growth and development of the country through the development of sustainable infrastructure.
With the vision of ‘Your Partner in Enabling Consulting Engineering Excellence’ CESA’s key focus is on partnering with Government and other key stakeholders in the Built Environment for the development of infrastructure that will underpin economic growth for South Africa. Consulting Engineers are the drivers of economic growth through the design and development of infrastructure aimed at improving service delivery and in turn uplifting communities, alleviating poverty and unemployment in line with the aims of Government’s National Development Plan (NDP).
Over the coming months CESA is embarking on a campaign aimed at bringing stakeholders in the Infrastructure and Built Environment together to deliberate and come up with sustainable solutions to the challenges that our country currently faces. Part of this campaign includes a series of Webinars, the first of which is happening on the 14 October entitled, ‘Why has Government chosen Infrastructure Development as a key driver for economic growth and what needs to happen to make this a reality?’.
