    <td><p><b><span class="standardmainheading">The Employer</span></b></p>
      <p>It  is obvious that workplace training in not possible without the full  participation and support of the employers which should:      </p>
      <ul>
        <li>Register  a Commitment and Undertaking (C&amp;U) with the relevant council/s where they  agree to structure the training of, and  actually train, Candidates to achieve  the competencies standards required for professional registration by the  relevant council/s.</li>
        <li>Ensure  that the graduates register with the council/s as Candidates.</li>
        <li>Provide  the Candidate with appropriate training in the work environment to achieve relevant  outcomes.</li>
        <li>Provide  appropriate facilities to train the Candidates.</li>
        <li>Ensure  that Candidates are always under the guidance of a Mentor in their employ<strong>.&nbsp; If  employers do not have suitable persons as internal Mentors in their employ,  they must ensure that external Mentors are appointed.&nbsp; </strong></li>
        <li>Provide  the Candidates with an internal Supervisor (technical coach) in the employing  organisation.&nbsp; The Supervisor should  provide coaching in e.g. technical areas while the Mentor&rsquo;s role is to provide  counselling and guidance, ensuring that the Candidate&rsquo;s programme and path to  registration remained intact. </li>
        <li>Select  Mentors and Supervisors with great care, actively engaging in the selection,  matching and training of prospective Mentors, Supervisors and Candidates. </li>
        <li>Release  the Candidate during normal working hours to attend training as required.</li>
        <li>Ensure  that on-the-job assessment is done and records of learning are kept.</li>
        <li>Ensure  sufficient time is made available for meetings between Candidates, Supervisors  and Mentors.</li>
